![]() However, this premium-priced tablet is still hamstrung by the same Fire OS that powers the cheaper models. The screen is bright and sharp enough, the speakers aren't bad, and the cameras are 1080p and much nicer than the cameras on the rest of the Fire tablets. That said, if all you plan to do is consume Amazon content, and the price doesn't bother you, the Fire Max 11 is a nice way to do it. ![]() And the list of things an iPad can do that the Fire Max 11 can't is longer than I have space for here. With a base price of $230 you're only $30 away from an iPad. I'm not sure how feasible this would be because Fire OS is based off of Android and we see the problems it has dealing with Android. If you're all in on all things Amazon, the Fire Max 11 ( 5/10, WIRED Review) is the company's most powerful tablet. I've read that Android is actually based off of Linux. Option 2: Wipe Fire OS and run Linux Mint Cinnamon on the tablet. I'm sure there are other annoying features or lack of features that are not coming to mind right now because those two are the main ones that are bothering me at the moment. If you install Google Gboard it tells you to install the latest version to use the voice to text. If you install Microsoft Swiftkey it says you need to install Google voice search, which you can't. For one I like a number row which it doesn't allow and it lacks features but I won't get in the weeds on it. I guess because I'm lazy like most people that are relying on this very common feature. but the keyboard is one of the biggest annoying problems I'm facing and what I mean by that is I want the ability to use voice to text for searching and typing. It's there and can be accessed using the fire keyboard or homepage search feature among other things. It's only your tablet with your personal information on it, don't sweat it.Ģ. There is no options for changing any of this. If you presented this to me as a software/OS developer I would laugh you out of the room and have you make me a sandwich. If my tablet is locked why does a stranger or someone I may know have the ability to take photos, activate or deactivate my Bluetooth connection and log me into or out of a network by simple moving around within the lock screen itself. See below for a peek.įirst I well tell you what I would like to change in the current configuration which isn't a lot but enough to be annoying.ġ. I have everything organized into folders which keeps things tidy and efficient. I never scroll to the right, left, up or down so it's easy to ignore those other pages. Moving on, I'm using the fire launcher but actually I really only use that middle homepage. That's pretty annoying and worthy of placing an Amazon Sucks comment here. I've got Google Play on there as I had before and I've installed all of the apps that I really use with a few exceptions that won't allow me to install them because it's technically not an Android device. ![]() ![]() I reset my tablet to factory, reinstalled everything. I would be okay with any of the following options and preferably the ability to easily choose which option I want. I'm not worried about root unless it is required to do something I mention. It's been a little while and my objectives have completely changed.
